Summer Events in Fredericksburg

Summer brings some of Fredericksburg's most anticipated community events.

The Fourth of July Parade on Main Street draws nearly 200 cars, floats, horses, and community groups through the historic district, followed by a free patriotic program at Marktplatz in downtown Fredericksburg. It's one of the most beloved small-town celebrations in Texas.

Later in the summer, the Gillespie County Fair returns August 27–30, 2026, the oldest continuously running county fair in Texas. The County Fair Parade kicks off at 10am on Friday, August 28, on Main Street, and the fair itself brings together agricultural exhibits, livestock competitions, and community programming that reflects life in Gillespie County.

Find a Cool Pool

Two public pools operate seasonally in Fredericksburg from June through August - Tony Knopp Town Pool and Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park pool. Both are open to the public for $2 per person (cash only) and include chair lifts for guests with limited mobility. The Town Pool Splash Pad is also a great option for non-swimmers and is free and open to all ages throughout the summer season.

Many lodging properties in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County offer private or shared pool access, and a few even sit along the Llano or Pedernales River, with kayaks and fishing poles available to guests.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Fredericksburg and the surrounding Hill Country give outdoor enthusiasts plenty of room to roam. Highlights include hiking at Cross Mountain Park, which is 1,951 feet high and features walking trails, a butterfly garden, and a picnic area. You can also visit Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, one of the most popular state parks in Texas, which offers short hiking loops and more rugged, back-country routes.

You can also visit the nation's largest working wildflower farm, Wildseed Farms. During the early summer, you’ll see everything from red poppies to Texas bluebonnets and everything in between. They also have a café and a winery.

Old Tunnel State Park is the smallest state park in Texas and one of its most unique. From May through October, an estimated three million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from an old railroad tunnel at dusk. You can view them emerging from the tunnel on select nights by purchasing a ticket online in advance.
